The historic city area of Pocitelj has been declared a national monument of BiH
Počitelj is a historical settlement of oriental-mediterranean character located in the valley of the Neretva River and one of the most beautiful cultural and historical units in BiH. It was first mentioned in 1444. Above the settlement dominates the Počitelj fortress, i.e. Gavrankapetanovica Tower, which in previous period protected the entrance to the Neretva valley. The fortress consists of a tower with a small inner courtyard, built at the end of the 14th century, ramparts, and additions and reinforcements built until the second half of the 15th century.

Hadji Aliya's Mosque is another dominant Počitelj building, and it represents one of the most successful achievements of the classical Ottoman style of single-space sub-dome mosques. It was built in 1562, and on the inscription above the entrance to the mosque is said that it was raised by Haji Aliyah. The mosque was repaired in 1664 by Shishman Ibrahim Pasha, and this mosque is also known as Shishman Ibrahim Pasha.
