The most beautiful face of the city
Sarajevo’s street, Ferhadija will be in a different guise for the rest of the autumn. Dozens of colorful umbrellas are placed above the main promenade. "We decided to cheer up autumn in Sarajevo with the display of colorful umbrellas in Ferhadija. For a more beautiful face of our city," wrote the mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić.
Ferhadija, Sarajevo's most famous street, was built in the 16th century. Its eastern, shorter part was located in Gazi Husrev-bey's mahal, formed in 1531, while its longer, western part belonged to the Ferhadija mahal, formed around 1562, when the mosque of the same name was built.
The street bore the name Ferhadija until 1928, when it was named Street of the Crown Prince Peter, after Peter II Karađorđević. During the Second World War, it was again called Ferhadija, and after the war it was given the name Vase Miskina street. The name Ferhadija street was returned in 1993.
