The exhibition "Homage to Dubrovnik" ("In Honor of Dubrovnik") by the prominent Bosnian painter and graphic artist Mersad Berber (1940-2012) was opened in Dubrovnik. The exhibition was organized by the Mersad Berber Foundation, under the auspices of the City of Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik Heritage. Berber's works are now in numerous museums around the world. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the most impressive works of the great artist, based on the theme of Dubrovnik, where some of his most important works were created.
Speaking at the opening of the exhibition were Terence Rodrigues, one of the former directors of the London auction house Christie's and art historian, Antun Karaman from Dubrovnik. "Mersad Berber has created a personal style that can be called polyphonic because it creates the impression that these are several images that are stacked on top of each other," Rodrigues said.
The exhibition, worth more than 1.5 million euros, is set up at a location that, as part of Dubrovnik heritage, is located in the heart of Dubrovnik, as the only preserved quarantine building in the European part of the Mediterranean under UNESCO protection. The most dominant period of Mersad Berber's painting path was while painting "Ottoman Bosnia", which can be seen through his oeuvre, which ranges from the 1960s to the end of his artistic engagement.
